Mohammed NAALIR
COLOMBO: SAARC Summits help develop political and cultural ties
between the Member States, JVP Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath said
yesterday.
He said that regional cooperation is crucial in exchanging ideas to
take forward the development activities. “As a political party we are
supportive of holding the SAARC Summit in Sri Lanka as it ensures
regional cooperation.”
He told a media briefing that the member countries must be supportive
of implementing economically productive projects but must not intervene
in the economic activities of another country.
He stressed the necessity of cooperation among Member Countries
India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives
and Nepal to ensure regional security.
In case of terrorism and security related issues a Member country can
seek the assistance of other Member Country to eradicate terrorism.
But no country should economically dominate a member country. He
noted that Member countries must be supportive of common activities
between SAARC countries. The SAARC Summits also depict this principle.
All bilateral development activities between the regional countries
must be carried out based on fifty- fifty basis policy to each country
involved in the development process.
We must maintain intimate relationship between the member countries
economically, politically and culturally.
In answer to a question raised by the media, Herath said that the JVP
was always supportive in imposing emergency regulations to suppress the
LTTE’s terrorist activities. But they oppose the emergency regulations
that harm innocent people.
The reopening of Kankesanthurai Cement factory in collaboration with
a reputed Indian company is a productive move for the economic stability
of the country but it should not damage the resource structure of the
area.
Addressing the media JVP central Committee member Nalinda Rajapaksa
said that private blood banks are the main cause for spread of AIDS.
He said that private blood banks are the prime reason for spread of
AIDS. Due to private blood banks a some people are affected with HIV.
Thereafter countries like France, Pakistan, Bangaladesh and India have
imposed restrictions on private blood banks. All blood banks must
function under the direct supervision of the Government
He said the private blood banks pay a nominal charge of Rs. 250 for a
pint of blood. But they charge Rs. 50,000 for a pint blood. So the
Government’s part is crucial in this regard, he added..
