Treasure hunters nabbed in Galgamuwa

Police arrested 18 treasure hunters in the Thoruththukadawela jungle in Galgamuwa yesterday.

Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said OIC Galgamuwa CI H.M.Piyathilaka had rounded up a group of suspects tracking treasure in a jungle five km away from Thoruththukadawela yesterday around 1.30 am. "Police arrested 18 treasure hunters who gathered from different parts of the country in search of treasure," he added.

The suspects were from Kottawa, Gampaha, Beliaththa, Ja-Ela, Galgamuwa and Mahara.

The 18 treasure hunters were arrested along with a tractor and other equipment. The suspects were produced before the Galgamuwa Magistrate.
