A new concessionary electricity tariff system has been introduced to
religious places and charitable institutions under the direction of
Power and Energy Minister W.D. J. Senevirathne, a ministry official
said.
According to the new system religious and charitable places which
monthly consume more than 180 units would be charged Rs. 12.50 per unit
replacing the old system that charged Rs. 14, 15, 20 and 22 per unit.
The revision will be effective from July 01, the official added. The
official said that the revision was a sequel to an appeal by religious
leaders to President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
He further added that the 30 % fuel adjustment charge levied form
religious institutions will also be removed with effect from May 1.
A fixed charge of Rs. 3,000 levied form religious places which
consume over 600 units per month had been reduced to Rs. 240 with effect
from July 01, under the recommendation of the special committee
appointed to grant relief to such institutions. |
