Leader of House rejects JVP claim

Leader of the House Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva yesterday completely rejected the claim made by the JVP that 1,500 Indian soldiers are due to come to Sri Lanka to provide security to Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh who will attend the 15th SAARC Summit to be held in Sri Lanka on August 2.

According to information received from the Defence Ministry this is an utter falsehood.

The Minister responding to a question raised by JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake said the Government has no intention to bring Indian troops to provide security for the SAARC Summit.

If any state leader visiting Sri Lanka wants to bring a certain amount of his security guards, that perticular state leader has a right to do so.

“The JVP is attempting to mislead the people by asking these kind of distorted questions in Parliament”, the Minister added.
