People are not foolish to fall for pretence, make up - Minister Sumedha Jayasena

Top UNPers are now with the Government. The best and strongest leaders of the UNP like Karu Jayasuriya and Dharmadasa Banda are with the Government. Today people are not foolish to fall for pretence and make up. Ordinary Sri Lankans cannot be fooled.

The UNP is going to be defeated again at the Sabaragamuwa and North Central Provincial Council Election, Child Development and Women’s Empowerment Minister Sumedha G. Jayasena told the Daily News yesterday.

Minister Jayasena said the society is educated, intelligent and far sighted. The UNP is unable to find a contestant within a district to contest in the upcoming Provincial Council election and it has to import contestants who do not even have a vote in the Province, she said.

According to Minister Jayasena, the UNP is going from bad to worse and has no future. Many farmer organisations demand from the Government to increase the cost of a bag of fertiliser from Rs. 350 to Rs. 1,000 because they say that they have adequate money to pay for it.

They have money because they use alternative energy in their daily activities while getting high prices for their products such as paddy, fresh vegetables, grains and fruits.

People in the Sabaragamuwa Province gets a very high price for rubber and they are cultivating more rubber now.

They also get a good price for tea leaves, the Minister said.

She pointed out that war victories are visible to the people and they know that total eradication of terrorism and the end of the war will end all their other burdens automatically.

The strike by the JVP and UNP was a total failure because it was just a political manoeuvre to salvage their sinking popularity.
