Officer in Charge of the Kalmunai police station took his own life yesterday morning after receiving a letter of transfer, Police Spokesman Ranjith Gunasekera said.

OIC W.C.Wijethilaka (57) a resident of Divulapitiya pointed his T 56 at his neck and pulled the trigger yesterday around 5.45 a.m. at his police quarters room in Kalmunai ending his 37 year police career.

The transferring letter was received on Thursday around 10.30 a.m. SSP Gunasekera said OIC Wijethilaka had written in the police book that he was not pleased about being transferred to the Ampara police station and he was not willing to perform any duties at a police station where younger police officers were serving in superior positions.
