Minister Devananda in quest for Indian assistance
People of the North/East stuck in a deep mire hitherto are today
marching forward striving to avail themselves of their due political
aspirations, said Social Services and Social Welfare Minister Douglas
Devananda.
"The Provincial Council established through the Provincial Council
Election in the East and the Special Task committee put in place until
the Provincial Council Election is set in the North, have created a
strong confidence in the psyche of the people of the North/East.
The services needed to be catered to those living in the North and
East for uplift of their lives cannot be withheld until such time a
political solution to their problems could be brought about, but these
services have become immediate necessities at this contemporary period
and India, our friendly neighbour needs to assist us in this regard", he
said.
Minister Devananda, is the Secretary General of the EPDP and the
Chairman of Special Task Committee of the North. He made this
humanitarian request on behalf of the people of the North and East from
the Indian delegation that visited Sri Lanka recently.
Minister Devananda pointed out that whilst treading the path for
achieving the due political rights of the people of the North/East,
action should also be taken for development of their living conditions,
thinning out the day-to-day problems they face, and provide them with
humanitarian services. The Indian delegation assured that steps would be
taken to remedy the situation. |
