Conference

The South Asian Regional Conference of the Executive Members of Salesian Fathers of Don Bosco will meet in Sri Lanka from June 29 to July 1 at the Mother House of the Salesian Fathers in Sri Lanka at Dungalpitiya.

The Regional Superior of the South Asia Rev. Fr. Maria Arogyam will preside.

The Conference will focus its attention on the implementation of the resolutions passed at the 26th General Chapter held in Rome, early this year


Seth pirith to bless country

A Seth Pirith chanting to invoke blessings on the country, Security Forces, Police and the people will be held at the Maha Maluwa of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kandy on July 12 at 4 p.m. with the participation of over 1,000 members of the Maha Sangha.

The pinkama has been organised on the request of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, MP Ven. Uduwe Dhammaloka Thera said.

He said the Maha Sangha representing all parts of the country led by the Malwatta and Asgiriya prelates will participate in the pirith chanting.


Special MEP meeting

Urban Development Minister and Chief Government Whip Dinesh Gunawardena will address a special meeting of the MEP Central Committee at Shedarest, Kaduwela today at 3 p.m.

The Vice President of MEP Kaduwela and Chief Organiser Kaduwela electorate Somaweera Chandrasiri will preside.

Deputy speaker Geetanjana Gunawardena, and MEP Secretary K. Dissanayaka will also participate.


Awareness seminar

An awareness seminar on the 'UN convention on the rights of people with disabilities' organised by the Sri Lanka Council for the Blind (SLCB) will be held on June 29 at 9.00 a.m. at SLCB headquarters, 14, Church Road, Colombo 2.


Positive lifestyle programme

A special lecture programme on 'Positive Lifestyle For Healthy Mind and Body' will be held on June 28 from 5 pm at the Bambalapitiya Government Flats Community Hall.

This programme includes a lecture on the same topic by Dr. Chandramohan MBBS explaining the impact of mind on diseases and concluding with a special group meditation with guided commentaries.

Translation to Sinhala and Tamil will be provided. An exhibition on Health and Raja Yoga Meditation will also be a part of the programme.


Ananda Health Watch

The 14th Ananda Health Watch Medical Camp for past and present teachers of Ananda College organised by Old Anandians 75-80 group will be held on June 29 at 8.30 a.m. at Ananda College, Colombo 10.


Felicitation

A ceremony to felicitate Principal of Dudley Senanayake Vidyalaya, Colombo, D.S. Jayasinghe, who retired after 50 years service was held on June 27 at Shalika Hall, Narahenpita.

A farewell ceremony organised by parents and students will be held at the school on June 30.

Jayasinghe, a grade I Principal was adjudged the best Principal of the Western Province in 2001.


Graduation ceremony

The Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management will hold its graduation ceremony 2007 on July 2 at 10 am at the main hall of the BMICH, Colombo, under the patronage of Tourism Minister Milinda Moragoda.

A Singithi Pola organised by Kinder Care Montessori, Waragoda, Kelaniya will be held today at 9.00 a.m.


Blood donation

A blood donation campaign organised under the patronage of Nugegoda People's Bank staff and customers will be held on July 1 at the Bank premises.


Office bearers: Lake House Hindu Association

The Hindu Association of Lake House held its Annual General Meeting on Thursday. The previous committee with a few changes in the Committee members was re-elected unanimously. Accordingly the new committee for year 2008/2009 is as follows:

President - Ananth Palakidnar, Vice President - K. Easwaralingam, Secretary - Shyamala Devi Karunakharan, Assistant Secretary - Anoja Sajitharan, Treasurer - S.M. Vishwakanthan, Committee Members - M. Premkumar, Niranjan, Rajan, Sujeevan Aiyar, N. Bawananthan, Mani Srikanthan, Anilkumar, Weerasingam and Balasubramaniam, S.S. Nageswaran and A. Parasuraman will remain as Consultants.


Foundation services on July 4

Under the social and community services of the Lakshman Yapa Foundation distribution of spectacles and agriculture aid for home gardeners will be held. The venue is the Pitabeddara Divisional Secretariat auditorium on July 4 at 2.30 p.m.


Repair Kithulpe project

The farmers, and members of Hanguranketha Pradeshiya Sabha have urged the Nuwara Eliya district Irrigation Authorities to reconstruct the Kithulpe irrigation project.
