Annual award in memory of Bernadeen Silva

A fund will be inaugurated to launch an annual award in memory of Bernadeen Silva who served the Women's Education and Research Centre as a Trustee and a Board member who died in February 2007.

She was instrumental along with Dr. Kumari Jayewardene in founding the Women's Education Centre (WEC) now functioning as Women's Education and Research Centre (WERC).

She was responsible with some others in initiating Kantha Handa called Pennin Kural in Tamil and Voice of Women in English.

This organisation was the first feminist organisation of the 1970s and pioneered the Women's Movement into new directions.
