UN Habitat programme adopts Minister's proposal
The UN Habitat Programme has adopted the suggestion made by the
Minister of Housing and Common Amenities, Ferial Ashraff that the
Government should recognise the important role of women in poverty
alleviation and slum upgrading implementation programmes, states a press
release from the Ministry of Housing and Common Amenities.
This proposal was put forward by the Minister Ashraff representing
Sri Lanka at the Second Asia-Pacific Ministers Conference on Housing and
Uran Development (APMCHUD) held last May in Tehran, Iran.
Housing and Urban Development Ministers and high ranking officials
concerned with from 37 countries in the Asia-Pacific region participated
at this meeting.
This Ministers' Conference focused and discussed on the key themes
covering urban and rural planning management, urban slum up-grading,
water and sanitation, housing finance and natural disaster. |
