Notice to postal voters
Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake in a release yesterday
said the last date for the applications to vote by post at the
forthcoming Sabaragamuwa and North Central Provincial Council Elections
has been fixed to July 10 and this date will not be extended.
The release said: Since the election is confined to a limited area,
the facility to vote by post will be restricted to those officers and
employees who will be deployed for election duty.
The period stipulated in the Provincial Councils Elections Act for
submission of applicants was 10 days from the date of publication of the
nomination notice. As the exhibition of the electoral registers was
delayed the last date for acceptance of applications has been fixed for
July 10, 2008. This date will not be extended.
Applications certified by the Certifying Officers should be sent to
respective Returning Officers. Priority Service labels can be affixed to
the envelope in which applications are sent. If labels are not available
or not sufficient when words “Election documents sent free of postage”
can be written on the envelope.
The register that will apply for this elections is the 2007 register
which was certified on 30th May, 2008. The registers of the two Councils
are exhibited at the District Secretariats in Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa,
Ratnapura and Kegalle and at the Postal Headquarters, D.R. Wijewardene
Mawatha, Colombo 10.
The register are also exhibited at places determined by the Heads of
the Armed Forces, Inspector General of Police and the Commandant of the
Civil Security Force.
Certifying Officers are requested to forward applications as when
they are certified without keeping them to be posted together just
before the closing date. Applications received after July 10 are liable
to be rejected, the release said. |
