Nalanda College English Day
The English Day of Nalanda College, Colombo will be held at
Elphinstone Theatre, Maradana today at 2.30 p.m. Director of English
National Institute of Education, Maharagama Sunil Athugoda will be the
chief guest.
Poson drama
The Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Southern India has organised
a drama portraying Sangamitta for Poson at 7.00 p.m. at the Music
Academy in Chennai on June 28. The Dance drama will be presented by
Jayapriya Vikraman Dance Troupe, a leading dance troupe in South India,
Consular at the Deputy High Commission Laxshman Jayawardena said.
The seminal moment of Ashoka’s conversion to Buddhism is the climax
in this drama. The play is set against the background of the Kalinga war
and describe vividly the internal conflict in the mind of Ashoka. The
dance drama is sponsored by the Bank of Ceylon and Solex Engineering Pvt
Ltd.
Thanks giving mass
St. Benedict’s College along with their Old Boys’ Union have
organised a thanksgiving Holy Mass for the life of Rev. Fr. Flavian
Wilathgamuwa (Rev. Bro. Flavian) past Director of the College on June 26
at St. Lucia’s Cathedral at 8.00 a.m. Rev. Fr. Flavian passed away on
11th June in USA and his funeral took place last week amidst a large
gathering of past pupils and Sri Lankans living in the USA. He was one
of the finest Directors St. Benedict’s had during the sixties when
college celebrated the centenary.
Holy Mass in memory of Fr. Flavian
A requiem mass for the repose of the soul of Rev. Fr. Flavian
Wilathgamuwa who passed away in the USA will be held on Thursday, 26
the June at 8 a.m. at St.Lucia’s Cathedral, Kotahena. All old
Benedictines are requested to participate in the celebration.
Annual General Meeting
Customs Officers’ Union, will hold their Annual General Meeting at
5.00 p.m. on June 25 at the Lotus Hall of Grand Oriental Hotel.
A high turn out for the Annual General Meeting is expected as the
issue of salary anomaly arisen with the implementation of Public
Administration Salary Circular No. 06/20065 is still dragging on without
a proper solution and the height of enthusiasm of the membership on the
actions taken by the union over those members.
Newly recruited batch of over hundred Assistant Superintendents of
Custom are also expected to make their inaugural appearance in the
Annual General Meeting.
‘Harmonious Expressions’
The Department of Western Music of the University of Visual and
performing Arts presents “Harmonious Expressions,” a concert of
instrumental music by its 1st and 2nd year students and lecturers at the
Lional Edirisinghe Hall (the University Hall) on June 25 at 10.00 a.m.
Lecture
A lecture by Prof. Ananda Tissa Kumara will be held tomorrow at 5.30
pm. at the German Cultural Centre, Colombo 7. The lecture in Sinhala
will be ‘The Identity of Recent Myth on Colonisation in Sri Lanka’.
These toffees are not for eating

Alawathugoda police on Monday arrested two suspects transporting
2,755 toffees containing aphrosidiac substance in a van for distribution
among traders for sale among schoolchildren.
This follows complaints by parents that children attending school are
being inveigled by certain unscrupulous traders to get addicted to these
toffees to make a fast buck. Investigation are continuing. |
