MC Opposition Leader arrested for assault

Kotte Municipal Council's Opposition Leader Suresh Anthony Perera was
arrested yesterday by Police for harassing and assaulting two officers
of Lanka Electricity Company Limited (LECO).
Police Media Spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said two officers
attached to the LECO had gone to the Perera's residence to disconnect
his electricity supply yesterday for non-payment of electricity bills.
"While the LECO officers were returning from disconnecting the
electricity supply, Perera who arrived at his house just at that time
inquired about the LECO officers' presence.
Then he assaulted an officer and forced the duo to restore the power
supply," SSP Gunasekera told the Daily News.
Perera was arrested by Welikada Police OIC Neville de Silva for
assault and obstructing in the duty of officials.
An officer who received minor injuries was admitted to the Colombo
National Hospital.
The Welikada Police are conducting investigations. |
