Josephian golf to honour Nihal de Silva

The golfing Old Joes in grateful remembrance of Nihal de Silva held
recently an inaugural Josephian Golf tournament in his memory.
Nihal was a stalwart of St. Joseph's College, an avid golfer and a
wildlife enthusiast. His keenness for wildlife are to be seen in the
many books he wrote, some of which were award winning, amongst them
being the 'Gratien award'.
His untimely death at 56 under tragic circumstances, was a great loss
to the Josephian fraternity. It's most fitting that he will be
remembered through this annual golf tournament for the Nihal de Silva
memorial challenge trophy.
At this years competition there were 36 entries made up of varied
generations of old Joes vying for the overall and senior trophies.
The Nihal de Silva Memorial Challenge trophy in the year of
presentation was won by Mohan Ratnayake with 38 points, with Nilkamal
Perera as runner-up.
Results: Overall winner: Mohan Ratnayake Runner-up: Nilkamal Perera.
Seniors winner: Willie Barsenbach Runner up: Lalith de Mel
Best gross score on Par Three's: Willie Barsenbach 13
Best nett score on Par Five's : Mohan Ratnayake 12
Best gross score on five hidden holes: Mohan Ratnayake 22
