Vimuktha through to final

Fourth Seed Vimuktha de Alwis created a major upset when he knocked out top seed Redha Mohammed of Kuwait yesterday in a boys semi final fixture of the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) Under 14 Tournament at SLTA courts, Colo-mbo. Vimuktha outclassed the Kuwaitis in a straight two setter (6/4,6/4) to enter the final as only local player.

Vimuktha defeated Duzbionjit Singh of Malaysia 4/0 in the previous fixture. The latter had to had retire due to an injury as early as in the first set.

In the other quarter final matches Redha Mohammed (Kuwait) beat Joshua Jordan (Malaysia) 7/5,6/1, Sujiv Chopra (India) beat Damien Manavalan (Malaysia) 6/3,6/3, Ahmed Abdul Razak (Malaysia) beat Sharmal Dissanayake (6/1,1/0) retired.Dinushki Ranasinghe the other Sri Lankan who was able to reach the semifinal stage of the girls segment of the same tournament was beaten at the hands of an Indian Tarranum Handa 6/1, 6/2.
