Troops capture Adampan Tank
Army attacks LTTE bunker defences:
MANNAR: Army infantrymen battling terrorists on the Mannar
front in the Wanni theatre of operations, captured Adampan tank area
yesterday evening.
The Army liberated around two square kilometres south of Adampan
town. The newly liberated area lies between the Neelachcheana road and
the dam of the Adampan tank, defence sources said.
The Army launched the offensive around 4 a.m., attacking fortified
LTTE bunker defences in the area. The soldiers braved minefields and
booby traps and captured the bunkers after a few hours of fighting.
By 4 p.m. troops had destroyed eight LTTE bunkers including a trench
line. According to ground sources nine LTTE cadres were killed and six
others suffered injuries in this incident. One soldier was killed and
five others suffered injuries due to explosions of anti personnel (AP)
mines and trapped mines. Troops are consolidating their defences.
Troops attacked Tiger defences in the Kaddupulan area on the Mannar
front and destroyed an LTTE bunker stretch yesterday morning. Ground
troops have confirmed that six terrorists were killed and five others
injured in this incident. |
