Batik course for Youth

The National Crafts Council together with the Janakala Kendraya has decided to organise training courses on Batik printing for youth.

This training course was inaugurated due to the local production of high quality Batik creations do not meet the international standards. With this short course basic knowledge and new technology would be introduced and follow up courses are on the cards.

Youth between 18 to 35 could join this training programme, which would be held in the Jasnakala Kendraya from 8.30 am to 4.00 pm on weekdays beginning on May 2.

The training course will be for six months, and will be conducted by experienced Batik artiste Colvin Settinayake.

By joining this training course, creative youth who display an aptitude for art will be able to learn the art of Batik and to self-employ themselves. The National Crafts Council will be providing suitable markets.

Further details can be obtained by contacting the National Crafts Council or the Janakala Kendraya.
