Ravi Raj, Maheswaran killings:

Suspects further remanded

The two suspects in the assassination of Advocate Nadarajah Ravi Raj MP were further remanded till April 23 by the Colombo Additional Magistrate Sujatha Alahapperuma.

Nalaka Mathanweera and Aruna Shantha earlier made two confessions before Magistrate Sujatha Alahpperuma.

The Magistrate directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to forward the two confessions to the Attorney General and obtain instructions to conduct further investigations.

The CID submitted a report in connection with the assassination to court and said they are preparing the dossier of investigations to forward to the Attorney General to obtain instruction for investigations.

Meanwhile Colombo Additional Magistrate Ravindra Premaratne remanded two suspects detained in connection with UNP MP T. Maheswaran’s assassination till April 21.

On an application by the Colombo Crime Division Director (CCD) Senior SP Anura Senanayake, the Magistrate earlier released three suspects including a woman who had been detained.

The CCD Director who is directing the investigations assisted by Inspector R. M. A. Rajapakse submitted to court that the dossier of the investigation will be forwarded to the Attorney General for his advice.

Senior SP Anura Senanayake said the blood stains found at the scene of the incident and on the weapon found near the scene tally. The JMO’s report submitted to court earlier stated that the deaths of MP Maheswaran and his body guard S. Mahinda occurred due to shooting.

The Director Colombo Crime Division said that the dossier of the investigations will be forwarded to the Attorney General for his advice. They have recorded a statement from Maheswaran’s widow and family members.

President’s Counsel M. L. M. Ameen with Niroshan Perera, A.S.M. Misbha, K. S. Ratnavel, Shanaka Ranasinghe, Gunaratne Wanninayake, Nishada Gamage and Sujeewa Senasinghe watched the interest of the family members of Maheswaran.
