Colombo to host Thailand Business Forum

To promote trade and investment between Thailand and Sri Lanka, the
Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo will organise Thailand Business Forum in
Sri Lanka 2008 on May 12.
The Forum will provide opportunity for businessmen in both countries
to exchange views on how to maximise two-way trade and investment
potential and how to minimise trade and investment obstacles.
In this regard, the theme of the seminar will be “Trade and
Investment Opportunities in Thailand and Sri Lanka”. Speakers will be
invited from the Chamber of Commerce of Thailand, Ceylon Chamber of
Commerce, Board of Investment of Thailand, Sri Lankan Board of
Investment and the Federation of Industry of Sri Lanka.
Business matching will also be organised to explore ways and means
for possible trade and investment activities.
“The Royal Thai Embassy will also invite interested Thai businessmen
to participate in the Forum,” said an official in the trade sector.
Sri Lanka is Thailand’s 4th biggest trading partner in South Asia
(after India, Pakistan and Bangladesh) with total trade volume of USD
309,804,898 (2007):
Thailand’s exports to Sri Lanka was USD 273,557,740 (2007) Major Thai
Exports to Sri Lanka include textiles, dry fish, plastic pellet,
synthetic fibre
Thailand’s imports from Sri Lanka was at USD 36,227,158 (2007) Major
Thai Imports from Sri Lanka include gems, silver bars, gold, textiles,
tyres, frozen shrimps. |
