Wimal Weerawansa urges masses in special statement:

KOTTE: Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Parliamentary Leader
Wimal Weerawansa yesterday said in Parliament that Sri Lanka was faced
with a grave situation and no political party can play with that
situation.
He would not be neutral politically though he was expelled from the
party. He would do every possible thing to serve his people. He urged
the people to rise to overcome various conspiracies hatched by external
forces with local support.
He also said the voice of the members of the JVP at the grassroots
level was not heard and he should serve them without being suppressed by
the conspiracy within the party.
"I will not bow down before this conspiracy. I will not remain
inactive. I will work for the people and for this country undaunted."
Weerawansa made this observation making a special statement with
regard to various news items in the media. He also said that there were
many conspiracies manipulated by foreign bodies who are pleased with his
expulsion from the party. He questioned as to who benefited from this
situation.
Weerawansa said he learnt the Central Committee of the Party had
passed a resolution to expel him on May 10 after the election in the
Eastern Province. Although he was the Propaganda Secretary he now knew
nothing about the propaganda conducted by the party.
Weerawansa also said that he joined the JVP 20 years ago despite his
father's protest after his A/Ls. He made a great sacrifice for the
Party. He had two narrow escapes during 1988 and 1989 period.
He said many enemies wanted to end his political career, but this
made him even more determined to follow the noble policies of the party
to serve the people.
"This conspiracy really took shape after the 2005 Presidential
Election. It was a relentless effort. They made various allegations
against me personally. It was a campaign of vilification, defamation. It
did not take too long for me to realise that there was support within
the party for this campaign directed by external forces."
He alleged that some JVPers who had close links with the UNP made
allegations go the effect that he was engaging in an image-building
exercise at the expense of the party.
He told the House all his life, his main mission was serving the
people. He raised the voiced of the helpless and the downtrodden in
Parliament. But some did not like this and created a wrong impression in
the minds of the public.
He asserted that he was not an yesman in the party. He openly
expressed his ideas.
"I tried to show the wrong decision taken by the party after 2005. I
struggled to correct them. But they painted a different picture."
He said it was very painful for him to hear of the allegations made
by those within his party, as against those outside the party. "I love
this country.
I believe the party should work for the country and not vice versa.
Various external forces are seeking to silence patriots by either
defaming their character or physically eliminating them through the LTTE."
He said he had spent the better part of his life for the party and the
people and that commitment would not change. He gave his best for the
party.
He urged all JVPers to protect the party without falling into the
trap laid by conspirators. |
