DPMC in superb win over MAS Holdings

David Peiris Motor Company (A) overcame MAS Holdings (A) comprehensively by a margin of 85 points to 65 to cruise into the `B' division final of the Mercantile Super League Basketball Tournament which is in progress at Otters courts.

This event is being conducted by the Mercantile Services Basketball Association and sponsored by the Delmege for the sixth successive time.

After having taken a good 41 points 27 lead at half time DPMC cagers staged a good second half rally to make the tally 85 points to 65 at the long whistle to win the match. Dilshan Barati with a massive 25 points shone for the winners.

He was ably supported by Ajith Jayaweera (13) and Jagath Banara (10). For MAS Holdings Nuwan Indika (15), Chandimal Eidirisinghe (14) and Eranga Weerasinghe (12) were the main scorers.

Ranawana and Company defeated Union Assurance convincingly by 68 points to 49 after being ahead with 37 points to 25 at the short whistle worked off at Otter courts. The winners will meet David Peiris Company in the `B' division men's final scheduled to be worked off on Thursday at Otters courts.

Sugath Dushantha made a useful contribution of 23 points while Akila Jayasundara added 12 points for Ranawana and Company.

Aruna Wickramage, Isuru Perera and Thamindra Fernando with 13 points each was on target for the losers. DPMC registered another good victory in a previous match against Union Assurance by 81 points to 52 after taking a 40 points to 28 lead at breather. Pathum Munasinghe (21) and Geeth Perera (14) excelled for DPMC while Thamindra Fernando (25) and Aruna Wickramage (14) were on target for the losers.
