It was a glorious win for Joes
The big match time is so important and it had been a part and parcel
of my life till I settled in Gulf, due to my official committments. It
was my dream to see a big match victory for Joes; since the last
Josephian victory was recorded way back in 1972 under Rohan Fernando in
which I was just 15 years and waving the 'Blue and White' flag.
It was no doubt a truly professional performance by this year's
josephian team led by master Ruwantha Fernandopulle. The dream of any
captain is the winning of the big match and sign-off the season on a
memorable note. So young Ruwantha; you have just done it! my
congratulations to you and your gallant warriors. You were not only
instrumental in bringing back the Rev. Fr. Maurice Legoc trophy to St.
Joseph's College Trophy cabinet; but showed many other young cricketers
the true leadership qualities to learn and emulate.
The significance is that Joes skittled Petes out for 36 runs in 1972
under Roy Dias (who needs no introduction), and my good old school buddy
Susilough de S. Wijeratne; who is supposed to be the livewire of
Josephian cricket advisory; enlightened me that the Josephian victory
too was achieved after 36 years! What a co-incidence. Well done Joes!
