Army Commander in Yala for security review
Security Forces serving areas in the deep South received Army
Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka yesterday who was on an
inspection and review tour to the Yala area.
The visiting military chief on his arrival was welcomed by Area
Commander for Hambantota, Colonel Devinda Perera and other senior
officers before they commenced their progress-reviewing meeting in
relation to security matters in the Hambantota District.
The visiting team included Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekeara,
Commandant, Civil Defence Forces, Deputy Inspector General of Police
(DIG) Jayantha Wickramarathne, DIG Nimal Lewke and several senior Army
officers. He made special inquiries into the security network provided
to villages surrounding Yala and Buttala areas and wanted the
authorities to adopt new strategies and methods to further strengthen
the security blanket.
Lieutenant General Fonseka issued further directives to the Security
Forces and wanted to seal any loopholes without leaving room for LTTE
violence.
A large number of senior military and civil authorities attended the
meeting. |
