LTTE area leaders killed in confrontations

An LTTE cadre was killed in an ambush by the STF on a group Tigers in Vellaveli yesterday. They also recovered a weapon in the LTTEer’s possession.

According to Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara following information received the STF had targeted an LTTE movement in a patch of semi jungle in the Vellaveli area yesterday at around 5.00 am.

“The STF conducted a successful ambush and killed a Tiger cadre”, Brigadier Nanayakkara told the Daily News.

In a subsequent search operation the STF uncovered a T56 assault riffle, a claymore mine weighing 20kg, a hand grenade, a detonator, a pouch, three magazines, a wire roll and a 9v battery.

Meanwhile, the Security Forces launching offensive attacks on LTTE lines to neutralize Tiger attacks in the Wanni front killed nine LTTE cadres including an Tiger area leader on Wednesday, Brigadier Nanayakkara said.
