Troops capture LTTE bunkers near Giants Tank

Troops in the Mannar battle front yesterday captured an LTTE bunker
line in the Giants Tank area including the strongest bunker which was
used by the LTTE as the commanding bunker to lead the Tiger cadres there
in Giant tank, military sources told the Daily News yesterday.
At least 20 Tiger cadres were confirmed killed in the battle that
lasted for hours since yesterday morning, sources added.
The 8 Gemunu Watch troops operating under the command of Task Force
-I in Mannar captured six weapons of the LTTE cadres in a subsequent
search operation carried out after the capture of bunker line.
With the capture of this bunker line, troops are now dominating the
entire Parappakandal area between Andankulam and Giant tank area.
Commando troops operating in Manthai, North of Mannar also killed six
Tiger cadres including LTTE Pappamoddai area leader Victor during a
confrontation on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, troops operating in Mullikulam are in the North of Madhu
also killed six Tiger cadres on Wednesday around 3 p.m. after laying an
ambush in the area, sources added.
