Acting GS nabbed accepting bribe

An Acting Grama Sevaka officer attached to the Malwala division was
arrested by bribery sleuths while accepting Rs. 3,000 as a gratification
from an individual yesterday morning.
The Director Investigations of the Commission to Investigate
Allegations of Bribery or Corruption SSP Neville Guruge said the acting
Grama Sevaka officer functioning at 153-A division in Malwala had
demanded Rs. 3,000 from a person to issue a permit to illegally fell a
jak tree.
"The complainant was asked to pay Rs. 2,000 in advance and the
balance later," SSP Guruge told the Daily News.
The acting Grama Sevaka was arrested while accepting Rs. 1,000 as
part of the transaction from the complainant at the Grama Sevaka office
yesterday.
"The suspect was produced before the Ratnapura Magistrate yesterday
evening," he added.
