More Race Meets at Nuwara Eliya

The newly formed the racing consortium (Pvt) Ltd has made arrangements to hold six horse race meets at Nuwara Eliya race course. The first meet is scheduled for March 22, while there will be three meets in April 14, 20 and 26 and one meet each in June and July.

The race course at Nuwara Eliya was under Ceylon Turf Club and only the CTC had the right to conduct meets here. Last December the course was taken over to the Sports and Public Recreation Ministry with this take over the racing consortium get the opportunity to conduct meets, and the consortium has made a request to the Ministry and is awaiting the approval.

Once the Ministry approve the request, the consortium plans to go ahead with programme already made for the year 2008, said Suranjith Premadasa, Chairman of the organizing committee.
