Govt recruitment strictly following procedures - Leader of the House

KOTTE: Leader of the House, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva yesterday told parliament if any recruitment is made against the accepted recruitment procedure in the public service, there are many steps which can be taken against it.

The Minister said he was not aware on the allegation made by the JVP that arrangements have been made to recruit nearly 1,000 officers to the Prisons Department before February 15 without following the accepted recruitment procedure in the Public Service.

The Minister responding to a question raised by JVP MPs said he will focus attention of the relevant Minister regarding this issue.

He said the Public Service Commission acts legally and correctly when recruitments are made to the public sector. If any recruitment has been made without following the accepted methodology, there are several measures which can be taken against it.

JVP MP Wimal Weerawansa said the Justice Minister is attempting to recruit a group of officials to the Prisons Department by violating the accepted recruitment procedure in the Public Service.

He also requested to suspend the recruitment of this group of unqualified persons to the Prisons Department before February 15. Weerawansa said according to the guidelines given by the Public Service Commission, the recruitments in the public sector should be made through a competitive examination.

Therefore, this informal type of recruitment should be stopped immediately, he said. Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara said Justice Minister Dilan Perera is a person who always admires the concept of “Good Governance”.

Therefore, he will focus special attention on this issue.
