Ministerial Sub Committee on CoL meets

The Ministerial Sub Committee on Cost of Living (CoL) chaired by Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayaka yesterday met at the Prime Ministerís Office and held extensive discussions on the financial crisis faced by the CEB due to escalating fuel prices.

The committee during the discussions laid special attention to obtain public views and suggestions before taking a final decision on the electricity charges, a media release issued by the Prime Ministerís Office said.

The Cabinet has directed the committee chaired by the Premier to study and make recommendations whether the electricity charges should be revised in keeping with the increasing fuel prices.

Power and Energy Minister W.D.J.Seneviratne, Petroleum and Petroleum Resources Development Minister A.H.M.Fowzie, Plan Implementation Minister P.Dayaratne, Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardene, Industrial Development Minister Kumara Welgama, Trade, Marketing Development, Co-operatives and Consumer Affairs Minister Bandula Gunawardana, Finance Ministry Secretary Dr.P.B.Jayasundara, Petroleum and Petroleum Resources Development Ministry Secretary A.P.A.Gunasekera, CEB Chairman Udaya Sri Kariyawasam and CEB General Manager R.Pulleperuma were also present.
