Four Lankans with forged passports arrested
Four Sri Lankans were arrested from Perambur in North Chennai for
allegedly coming to India with fake passports.
Acting on a tip-off, a special police team raided their place of stay
and arrested Sivaranjan (22), Gerald Vijayendran (24), both from Jaffna,
and Kirilayan (25) and Uma Maheswaran (25) from Trincomalee.
Having travelled with fake passports, Sivarajan and Gerald got
themselves registered at the Gummidipoondi police station, while
Kirilayan registered at Valasaravakkam police station with different
names.
All three had come to the city about 10 months ago. However, Uma
Maheswaran, who had arrived here a week ago, was yet to register his
name.
Police suspect that he too had come with a fake passport. The special
team impounded his passport for further interrogation. Initially, police
suspected that the men were members of the LTTE.
The special team was also verifying whether the arrested Lankans had
any links with the LTTE or whether they had helped the banned outfit in
the past. - Chennai online |
