All set for free and fair poll in East - Minister Karu Jayasuriya

The Government is ready to unveil the proposals of All Party Representative Committee (APRC) to the Public by January 23 said Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Karu Jayasuriya at the launching ceremony of 8th Janatha Sathkara Sevaya, held at Trincomalee Sinhala Maha Vidyalaya recently.

The 13th Constitutional Amendment could be applied more successfully for the problems of Tamils including language barrier and Government also intend to keep these stipulations broadly and effectively in future, Minister Jayasuriya said.


Announcing the successful conclusion of the 180 day development programme launched by the Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry in line with “Negenahira Nawodaya” the Ministry Secretary D. Disanayaka hands over a communique to President Secretary Lalith Wijetunga to be submitted to the President. Looking on are Ministers Karu Jayasuriya, Dew Gunasekera and Chandrasiri Gajadeera.

“All arrangements have been made to hold a free and fair election in the Eastern Province,” the Minister said.

The liberation of the Eastern Province has proved that no development is possible in the presence of war and disunity, Minister Jayasuriya stressed.

More than 60,000 acres of new land in the Eastern Province have been cultivated including 11,000 acres of maize under the 180 days rapid development drive, Minister added.

A new electrical Power Generation Plant at Sampur and a Higher Technical Institute at a cost of US $100 million will be established in the Eastern Province in the future, the Minister disclosed.

He thanked all public servants for their commitment in connection with the re-genesis of the people of the province.

Dissanayake handed over a communique to Presidential Secretary Lalith Weeratunga to be submitted to the President at the occasion.

Ministers Chandrasiri Gajadeera, Dew Gunasekera, Dallus Alahapperuma, Rishard Badurdeen, Najeeb.A. Majeed and Senior Advisor to the President Basil Rajapaksa also participated in the tour.
