New initiatives from Lanka’s envoy in Philippines

The New Ambassador, hails from a legal family and is himself an
eminent criminal lawyer and has been a “silk” or President’s Counsel,
being elevated to that position in 1995.
He had his secondary education at St. Joseph’s College, Colombo from
where he entered the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and having done
an Arts Degree, entered the Sri Lanka Law College in Colombo, where he
passed out as an Advocate (Attorney-at-Law) with first class honours
topping the list, in his final exam.
After a short stint of five years with the Attorney General’s
Department as a Crown Counsel, he reverted to the “Unofficial Bar”,
where he built up a lucrative private practice.
He was the Chairman of the Associated News Papers of Ceylon Limited,
(Lake House) in 1997, where he worked for three and half years. While
practising in the “Unofficial Bar” as a President’s Counsel, President
Mahinda Rajapaksa picked him up as the Sri Lankan Ambassador for the
Philippines.
He has begun several new initiatives to improve ties between the
Philippines and Sri Lanka and to get more Filipino tourists to Sri
Lanka. |
