Immediate relief for terrorist attack victims

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has issued instructions to provide immediate relief to victims of the LTTE terrorist attack in the Thanamalwila Divisional Secretariat Area at Kalawalgala.

The Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services Ministry has made arrangements to allocate Rs. 3 million for immediate payment of compensation to victims of the bomb blast through the District Secretary, Moneragala, Minister Rishad Bathiudeen said in a release yesterday.

The Government is to pay a maximum of Rs. 100,000 per person killed to the next of kin and Rs. 50,000 per person to those injured.

Bathiudeen said initially as an immediate relief measure, Rs. 25,000 each will be paid to the next of kin of an unmarried person killed and Rs. 50,000 to the next of kin of a married person killed in the blast. In addition to these payments, Rs. 15,000 is to be paid to the immediate family members as funeral expenses for each person killed.

An injured person will receive Rs. 10,000 each. District Secretary, Moneragala has been instructed to effect the balance compensation payments immediately on receipt of death certificates of victims who succumbed to their injuries, the Minister said.
