More security officers for Hakeem

Three additional security officers have been provided to SLMC parliamentarian Rauff Hakeem, Senior State Counsel Parinda Ranasinghe told the Supreme Court yesterday.

He informed court that one back up vehicle has already been provided to Hakeem and another vehicle which is being repaired will be provided to him by Monday.

He made the submissions when the case was called yesterday on a motion filed by Hakeem who claimed that he had not been provided with security personnel and back up vehicles as agreed by the Defence Secretary. The Bench comprised Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva PC and Justices Shirani Thilakawardane and Jagath Balapatabendi.

Hakeem complained to court that his rights had been violated by withdrawing of his security.

President’s Counsel Romesh de Silva with Nizam Kariappar instructed by G.G. Arulpragasam appeared for the petitioner. Senior State Counsel K.A.P. Ranasinghe appeared for the Attorney General and the IGP. The case will be mentioned on January 28.
