Ceasefire Agreement a joke - Dr Kohona
Foreign Secretary Dr Palitha Kohona who is on a semi-official tour in
Australia said the 2002 Ceasefire Agreement between the Government and
the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, is a joke.
Responding to a media release issued by Australian Foreign Minister
Stephen Smith, Dr Kohona said that members of Sri Lankan diaspora in
Australia must present the correct picture of Sri Lanka to their
respective members of Parliament and their voices should be heard in
Federal Parliament for supporting the people of Sri Lanka.
Foreign Minister Smith, issuing a media release, has expressed
concern over the decision of Government of Sri Lanka to withdraw from
the 2002 ceasefire agreement.
Lal Rankothge , President of Sri Lanka Australia Forum (ASF), a newly
formed organisation said he has already informed his member
organisations to write to the Australian Foreign Minister to inform him
of the correct picture of 2002 ceasefire agreement.
Rankothge said that on request and facilitation of Gothami
Indikadahena, Acting Consul General in Sydney, ASF has already co-ordinated
a meeting with Dr. Kohona and key members of the Sri Lankan diaspora in
Sydney on Friday at the Sri Lankan Consulate in Sydney on the issue of
recent developments in Sri Lanka after the withdrawal of the ceasefire
agreement.
