Foreign Minister to visit China
Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama is scheduled to visit the
People's Republic of China from December 19 to 21 to attend the
ceremonial opening of the Sri Lanka Consulate in Shanghai.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa during his State visit to the People's
Republic of China announced that a Consulate will be set up in Shanghai
to enhance the economic ties between the two countries which have
remained close friends.
The opening of the Consulate has been scheduled for December 20,
Foreign Affairs Minister Rohitha Bogollagama will be attending the
opening ceremony which will also be attended by the Deputy Mayor of
Shanghai, Tang Dengjie and Chairman of the China Council for Promotion
of International Trade Shanghai Sub Council, Cen Furong.
This event will be attended by representatives of the Consular Crops,
prominent business as well as travel, trade and the media personnel
based in Shanghai. The Foreign Minister will also meet the Shanghai
Mayor and the Sri Lankan community in the province.
This is the third Consulate established by the Foreign Affairs
Ministry this year. They are Frankfurt in Germany, Ramallah in Palestine
and Shanghai in China. This has given a wider presence to Sri Lanka's
international connectivity.
