Vidushini and Sahanaka clinch table tennis titles

Vidushini Malavige (Kirulapone Community Centre) and Sahanaka Ganegoda (Stanley Jansz Community Centre) bagged the open women's and men's singles titles respectively at the Inter-Community Centres Table Tennis Tournament worked off at the Race Course, Reid Avenue, Colombo on Sunday.

The championship was conducted by the Playgrounds and Recreation Department of the Colombo Municipal Council.

This tournament saw several promising youngsters displaying their prowess by clinching titles. Malavige beat G.H. Shabi (Ashtip Community Centre) in the open women's singles final which went the full distance. The former smoothly took the first set but went down in the second set by a lower margin 5/11 and made a good come-back in the third and final set to grab victory at 2-1 (11/6,5/11,11/7).

Ganegoda chalked up a straight set win over Fayas Miskin (Ketawalamulla Community Centre) to take the open men's singles crown. Ganegoda won the first set at 11/9 and the other set at 11/7.

In the open men's doubles final the pair of Chaminda Wijegunawardane and Prabath Indrajith (Thimbirigasyaya Community Centre) got the better of Ravi Shastri partnered by M. Ashraff (Kochchikade Community Centre) in straight sets 11/9,13/11.

In the open women's doubles the combination of Sanduni Warnasooriya and Treshani Perera (Kirulapona Community Centre) defeated Anjalee Udeshika de Alwis partnered by Hasini Gunasekara (Thimbirigasyaya Community Centre) in a two setter final (11/8,11/7).

In the under 15 girls singles final Masthoora Amavi (Belmont Community Centre) posted a comfortable straight sets victory over Dulakshi Ruwanthika (Torrington Community Centre) 11/6,11/7.

In the under 15 boys singles final C. Anoj (Thimbirigasyaya Community Centre) got the better of Vindula Ganegoda (Stanley Jansz Community Centre) which went the full distance 11/6,7/11,11/9.
