Japan pledges to eradicate terrorism

Japanese PM assures fullest support to President:

Japanese Prime Minister Yasao Fukuda said Japan would always reject terrorism and his Government would take every possible step to stop terror acts. He made these observations when he met President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Prime Minister's Office in Tokyo on Monday night.

Japan unwavering in aid commitments despite Western aid cuts

Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda said on Monday that Tokyo would continue to offer economic assistance to Sri Lanka despite the suspension of some U.S. and British aid this year over alleged human rights abuses related to the ongoing armed conflict in Sri Lanka, wire services reported.

Thrissur bus stop explosives were to be smuggled to Lanka

Police probing the recovery of a large quantity of detonators at a bus stand in Thrissur suspect that the explosives were to be smuggled into Sri Lanka. A gunny bag containing 10,000 detonators, placed in 100 boxes, was found at a bus stand.Two people were arrested in connection with the incident.

Cargills invests RS. 600 million in 2007

Cargills group had invested over Rs. 600 million in 2007 and would look to invest further, said Cargills Chairman Ranjith Page. Speaking at the first dealer convention of Cargills he said they would be making more investments next year as well. He said that their retail business was growing at around 30 per cent. "We want to increase that," he said.
