Religious leaders not divided - Thera
Even though there is a conflict for the past 25 years, our religious
leaders belonging to Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity, are
not divided along religious lines and they are really working in a very
reliable manner, said Secretary General of Amarapura Maha Nikaya Most
Venerable Kotugoda Dhammawasa Thera yesterday.
He was addressing a media conference in Colombo with the
participation of high level religious dignitaries from seven countries
to make the public aware regarding the International Summit of Religious
Leaders on Peace in Sri Lanka.
The Thera said Sri Lankans have to bring forward peaceful atmosphere
among religions until the country would meet the permanent peace for the
on going conflict.
The religious dignitaries have planned to visit Jaffna to take part
in a conference and a meeting with political and civil society leaders
aiming to pave the way to bring lasting peace for the country.
Attention has also been focused on to find how the country's
increasingly violent, conflict can be settled through peaceful means
utilising the goodwill of the great world religions. The conference is
scheduled to be held at the Public Library Auditorium in Jaffna from
December 12 to 13.
