Japan pledges Yen 1.9b aid for Sri Lanka

Japan pledged economic and financial assistance worth Yen 1,900 million to Sri Lanka as President Mahinda Rajapaksa met top Japanese leaders in Tokyo yesterday. During discussions with Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda and Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura, Sri Lanka thanked Japan for the assistance extended by the Japanese Government in the past and proposed several projects which needs international financial assistance.

The Government will pass the budget with a majority of votes at its Third Reading despite Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe's attempts to weaken the Government in Parliament, SLFP General Secretary Minister Maithripala Sirisena said.

Glass company opens Rs. 3.7 b new facility

The Ceylon Glass Company PLC opened its new glass bottle manufacturing facility in Horana yesterday. The total investment of the new facility is Rs. 3.7 billion. The company will increase its production capacity to cater to the local and international market.
