Seven arrested for Transformer blast

Seven suspects were arrested for questioning following a transformer
explosion which was supplying electricity to Warakamura and Kalalpitiya
area by an unidentified group during the wee hours of yesterday in
Kalalpitiya junction, Matale.
The transformer located in the Kalalpitiya junction along
Kandy-Matale A-9 Road was exploded yesterday at around 2.00 am. "Seven
suspects were arrested for questioning", Matale SSP Hector Darmasiri
said.
He said a wire of 200m was also found from the scene of the blast.
"We suspect that the culprits might have used the wire to blast the
transformer", he added.
The Government analyst and the bomb disposal unit had been rushed to
the scene. "The Government analyst and the bomb disposal were summoned
to examine the blast. The analysts reports will show the type of
explosive used to explode the transformer", the SSP said.
He pointed out that four police teams deployed from Matale police are
conducting the investigations in different angles to trace the culprit.
