The Government's aim is to weaken the Liberation
Tigers of Tamil Eelam, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said.
"Our objective is to weaken them. We have to defeat them militarily,
we have to control Wanni," he told AFP in an interview at the
