Excon trade fair on Thursday

Excon 2008 the annual trade fair of the Chamber of Construction Industry Sri Lanka (CCISL) will be held for the fifth successive year on November 29 at Galle Face Hotel.

This annual trade fair of the Chamber has been designed to enhance capacities and competitiveness of the construction industry by promoting linkages among the industry stakeholders, CCISL Chief Executive Officer/Secretary General Dakshitha Thalgodapitiya said.

He said this event would provide linkages among the industry stakeholders such as property developers, construction contractors, and vendors of construction equipment, raw materials and technology in addition to professional service providers.

This event will give special emphasis on the SME sector, which contributes 85 per cent to the industry. While this event has brought the bigger players of the industry and the SME sector together, it has also brought in, the institutional participation of professional organisations such as Sri Lanka Institute of Architects and Institute of Quantity Surveyors.

Excon 2008 will also be used by the Chamber to promote export of construction related professional organisational services from Sri Lanka, Thalgodapitiya said.

He said with the CCISL being identified as the focal point having successfully initiated an aggressive campaign to promote construction related supplies to emerging markets such as the State of Qatar and established markets like Dubai.

The event will record the presence of a large number of overseas participants who are invited to obtain first hand knowledge of the construction industry capacities of Sri Lanka, he said.
