Former Trinity boxer dies
Former Trinity College boxer R.S. Ramanayake and a long standing
member of the Trinity College Old Boys Union, passed away on Sunday
morning, at the age of 89.
At Trinity he excelled in boxing and athletics in the early 1930s. He
was at Trinity when Rev. J. Mcleod Campbell and Rev. R.W. Stopford were
the principals.
Late Ramanayake was a close associate of late E.L Senanayake from the
school days and later in politics.
He was a good boxer and some of his boxing friends were M.S. Daniel,
H. Young, O.L.Z. Abdeen, J.S. David.
After leaving school he captained his sports at the University of
Colombo, where he obtained his degree.
He was a long standing staffer at the Ceylon Administrative Service
as a District Revenue officer and had served in many parts of the
country.
He was also a close associate of late J.R. Jayawardene and served as
Ambassador in Belgrade. |
