Sports School for Nilaveli

The Sports School for children which has been set up in Nilaveli in the Trincomalee district will be declared open on December 15 (Saturday).

The school will have a football ground, swimming pool and an indoor stadium to play table tennis, badminton and volleyball. Children between the ages of eight to 15 years from the Trincomalee district will be able to make use of the facilities at the Sports School.

After the opening ceremony an exhibition table tennis match will be played and the newly built swimming pool too will be opened on the same day and soft toys will be distributed among the children.

The Sports School has been set up by the AGSEP with funds obtained from sports clubs from Switzerland and Germany. The intention of setting up the school is to bring about friendship and understanding between the children of the three main communities - Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims by taking part in sports.

A table tennis coach from the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka will visit the school to train the children to play table tennis. A cultural display by the children will precede the opening ceremony.
