Bid to popularise mountain biking in schools

The National Mountain Biking Association, together with the Sports Council of St. Joseph's College, Colombo have taken the initiative to popularise mountain biking as a medium of sport and recreation.

Thus a plan is currently in motion to popularise this exciting sport, especially among Colombo schools, including the international schools.

Mountain biking has become the most exciting discipline amongst the youth in the country and this is a Olympic sport covering variety of events from Cross Country, Cyclo-Cross, Down Hill, 4 X 4, BMX etc.

The NMBA has taken steps to conduct a workshop for coaches/sport masters of schools as an initial step to give basic coaching and training hints under the patronage of Sri Lankan and British experts.

This workshop will be conducted on December 1, 2007 at the Golf Lounge of Water's Edge, Kotte. Thereafter, a Mountain Biking Championship will be conducted in January 2008 at Water's Edge, Kotte, sponsored by Stassen Foods.
