The stage is set for one night which promises to be a unique experience for its viewers 'Thattaya's Musical Night with Film Stars'. The show is spearheaded by Sando Harris, the actor cum producer-director, along with the Matale Old Thomians' Association (Colombo branch), which is sponsored by ICICI bank.

The musical night is held in aid of the National Cancer Institute, Maharagama. Cancer is a dreaded disease that was diagnosed for the first time in 1952. Throughout the years it has claimed many lives and will continue to do so in the coming years.

The idea of a programme in aid of cancer patients was born after the members of the Matale Old Thomians' Association (Colombo branch) witnessed the pathetic condition of the cancer patients. Though the hospital provides comfort the members soon realised that public assistance is needed.

A blood donation will be held at the Henry Paderis Ground on November 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The musical show led by artists like Sando Harris, Madumadava Aravinda, Deepal Silva and many other celebrities will be held on the same day, same venue at 7 p.m. Saman and the Clan will provide music.

Wasantha Kumara's Dementia in Badulla

Wasantha Kumara's 29th exhibition of paintings "Dementia" will be held on 15, 16 and 17 November at Sirimalgoda Sri Vijayarama temple in Badulla.

"Dementia is a disease in Western medical science. When some people are getting old the cells of their brain begin to die and they lose their memory of the immediate past.

Gradually all their activities become disordered. They disregard their day-to-day activities and drop out one by one.

There is no remedy for "Dementia" as well as for many other diseases. Have you ever thought of what is happening to people in this world? They are born and spend their lifetime doing various things. They die ultimately due to a disease or any other reason.

How does it happen? Who knows it clearly?

Becoming old is an unpreventable disease that affect people. Weakness of seeing, hearing and smelling, weakness of the body as well as disturbances of mind come along with old age. Is any of the modern sciences able to suggest a remedy for this disease? Did the popular singer Michael Jackson or great boxer Mohamad Ali get any solution from modern Sciences? What has happened to their lives today?

I would like to remind you what a painting is. Can you be happy looking at a painting before this unpleasant reality of life?

I suggest you do this. Find out what happens to your mind when you look at these paintings. Read your mind before these paintings.

There will be about 39 paintings in this exhibition that are drawn in acrylic on canvas whereas the others are drawn in charcoal on paper.
