Thilanga ordered to file written submissions

Colombo High Court Judge Thilak Thabrew yesterday ordered Thilanga
Sumathipala and OIC of the Preventive Unit of the Illegal Immigration of
Criminal Investigation Department to file written submissions in
connection with the appeal filed by Sumathipala against the sentence
delivered by the Colombo Magistrate on April 04, 2007.
Sumathipala filed the appeal against the judgement that convicted him
for supporting Dammika Amarasinghe (who died later) to immigrate
illegally between April 01, 1999 and July 15, 1999. The Magistrate
sentenced him to two years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 50,000 and
another six months RI in default.
Sumathipala filed his appeal through Attorney Priyantha Upul
Amarasinghe. |
