Sujata Jayawardena memorial oration

The fourth annual Sujata Jayawardena Memorial Oration organised by the Alumni Association of the University of Colombo will be delivered by Sri Lankan legal scholar, Judge C.G. Weeramantry on November 15 at the BMICH.

Judge Weeramantry will speak on 'Traditional Global Wisdom on Environmental Protection'. The lecture will deal with the much neglected wisdom of the world's religions and of various world traditions in regard to environmental protection.

Jayawardena is a Past President of the Alumni Association.

Jayawardena, realising that accommodation was a problem for undergraduates, took up the challenge to build a five-storeyed hostel complex at Buller's Lane, Colombo 7. The hostel complex accommodates over 550 women undergraduates.

The University of Colombo, as a mark of gratitude to Mrs. Jayawardena, renamed the hostel complex Sujata Jayawardena Memorial Hostel Complex after her demise.
