Pakistan envoy donates books to CMC Library
Pakistan High Commissioner Shahazad A. Chaudhry yesterday presented
books to Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana at his office for the
use of Colombo Municipal Library.
The books donated by the Pakistani Government, cover a plethora of
subjects such as history, arts, architecture, Gandhara and Indus Valley
civilisation, economy, religion, various aspects of social life in
Pakistan, the life of Founder of Pakistan Quiad-e-Azam Muhammed Ali
Jinnah and famous poet of East Allama Muhammed Iqbal.
The High Commissioner also donated a set of 30 books of Sinhala
translation of Buddhist Art and Architecture in Pakistan by famous
Pakistan Scholar Ehsan M. Nadiem.
High Commissioner Chaudhry said it was a good will gesture of
Pakistan and would further strengthen bilateral relations between the
two countries. These books will elevate awareness and understanding on
various socio-economic aspects of Sri Lankans in Pakistan among the
Pakistan's stance on various global issues.
These books will also help to promote tourism between two countries
especially religious tourism as various books on Gandhara Art cover
in-depth the treasure of Buddhist Art, architecture, historical sites of
Buddhism and Buddha's relics in Pakistan.
The Western Province Governor thanked the Pakistani Government and
the High Commissioner for this goodwill gesture. He appreciated
Pakistan's support for Sri Lanka and the role Pakistan is playing in
international politics for creating interfaith harmony and global peace.
